Mathematical Modelling of Hydro-Systems

She has experience in mathematical modelling of coastal, estuarine and fluvial systems, in the fields of hydrodynamics, water quality, and sediment transport, as well as in the field of sea wave propagation. Knowledge which can be applied in the fields of maritime and river hydraulics, and environment and coastal planning, respectively.

She works for ORTHODROME since 2015. She previously worked for the company Hidroprojecto, S.A., where she was a technician in the Department of Port and Coastal Zone Engineering, between 1991 and 2011, when this company was dissolved.

Concerning the first subjects, the following projects stand out: the modelling of sediment transportation, in the estuary of the Pearl River (Macau, China), in the estuary and bar of the river Tagus, in the estuary of the river Douro, and in the shores and bars of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz (Portugal), where she developed methods to integrate the combined impact of tidal currents and wind currents; the mathematical modelling of sea waves, in several locations and port basins in Morocco, Cape Verde, and in Portugal; the participation in the development of a system of mathematical models for the integrated management of river, estuarine, and coastal zones, namely that of Maputo Bay (Mozambique), and that of Ria de Aveiro; the development of a system of mathematical models of all the main reservoirs within the area affected by Empreendimento de Fins Múltiplos do Alqueva (Multi-purpose development of Alqueva).

From her experience in Planning and Environment of the shoreline and coastal areas, the following projects stand out: the coordination of the Management and Zoning Plan for the Natural Reserve of the estuary of the river Tagus; the preparation of the Charter of Vulnerabilities and Potentialities of the Coastal Zone of the Municipality of Cascais (Carta de Sensibilidades e Potencialidades da Zona Costeira do Concelho de Cascais); the technical coordination of the Management and Zoning Plan for the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina (Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina), and of the Zoning Plans for the shoreline of Cascais, for the shoreline between Vilamoura and Vila Real de Santo António, for the shoreline between Sintra and Cascais, and for the shoreline of Porto Santo.

She has a degree in Geophysics by the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon (Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa), a specialization in Oceanography, and holds a post-graduate degree in Ecology, Modeling and Management of Maritime Resources by IST/FCTUNL.
